This is a good honest example of a Winchester 1873 rifle in 38-40 with a special order single set trigger.  Standard 24" round barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate.  Serial number is in the 208,000 range which dates this rifle to the same year the Statue of Liberty was built in New York, 1886.  Overall condition is NRA Antique Fine with 60% original receiver blue.  Loading port has 70% fire blue.  Hammer and lever have faded case colors that are silvering and beginning to haze over with a light patina.  The barrel and magazine but have 25% original blue mostly in the protected areas with the balance worn to a very pleasing smooth grey that is starting to haze over to a light brown patina.  Excellent markings throughout including the bronze loading block which has some fantastic marbled crystal lattice....a great look that sometimes shows up on these old Winchester loading blocks...no two are ever alike.  Screws are Very Good overall with a couple showing some turn mark...all are still good and serviceable. Original rear sight is a semi-buckhorn rear sight while the front is a fancy Lyman with an ivory bead...definitely old and from the period this rifle was in use.  The wood is in VG+ to Fine condition with 70% original varnish.  Nice tight wood to metal fit with the wood still swelling slightly proud over the metal.  No chips, cracks, or reparis...this is really nice untouched wood showing normal light usage...this rifle was used but quite well looked after.  The bore is in Fine+ condition, still fairly bright with strong rifling and little to no pitting.  All in all, just a nice and very clean example of a  73 Winchester with some original finish and a special order adjustable set trigger that still works.
