This is a nice example of a standard model 1873 sporting rifle in Caliber 38-40 with 24" octagon barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate w/trapdoor for cleaning rods (not present). 3rd Model. Pre-1898 Antique Serial number is in the 311,000 range and was Mfd. in 1889. This gun is completely original down to the smallest screw. Overall condition grades to NRA Antique Fine with 60% original faded blue on the frame mixed with patina. The barrel and magazine tube also have a lot of original blue that's now dull and turning brown. Hammer still shows about 50% case colors while the lever has mostly turned brown. The loading port still shows 70% of its original tempered blue. Very Good screws overall. Standard sights include the standard semi-buckhorn rear and front w/German silver blade. Front sight base and edges of the barrel shows some dings from someone improperly trying to drift the sight. Nice wood still shows 70% original varnish with a nice deep reddish hue. Perfect wood to metal fit and doesn't appear to ever have been removed from the gun. A few nicks and scratches but fine overall and very solid. Fine bore that is bright and shiny with strong lands and grooves with a few light scattered pits. A very solid example of a nice untouched looking 1873 rifle. Item# 8226 SOLD |
