Nice example of an early 3rd Model 1873 Rifle in Caliber 38 WCF aka 38-40.  Standard 24" round barrel, full magazine, and crescent buttplate w/sliding brass trapdoor.  SN# is in the 132,000 range and was built in 1883.  Nice markings throughout including 2 line barrel address and "Model 1873" tang marking.  The brass loading block has a great marbled patina with clear caliber marking, " 38 CAL ".  Being an early 3rd Model, the barrel also shares a similar marking in script " 38 -- CAL ". 

Overall, NRA Antique Fine Condition.  Receiver has 65% original blue.  Loading port still shows 70% fire blue while the hammer and lever retain about 10% of their original case colors.  Barrel has 35% original blue which is strong running down the wood-line and over the mag tube...with balance in protected areas..i.e. sights and in front of frame. The magazine tube is a little stronger with approximately 60% thinning original blue that is strongest on the top-side beneath the barrel.  Original rear sight is the short style found on 1st, 2nd, and as well as some early 3rd Models....this being one of the latest we've seen for a 3rd Model.  The back of the sight has been trimmed down some to accommodate the original owner's sighting.  Front sight is a desirable Lyman combination with folding globe.  The wood is in Good+ condition with perfect wood to metal fit with no chips, cracks, or repairs.  It has a nice character about it with handling wear but still lremains ight in color with some patches of original varnish.  Nice workings action that still has original blue on the bolt and firing pin.  Bore is still bright and shiny with strong lands and grooves...no rings or bulges...and rates as Fine+.  Nice example of a 73 Winchester with lots of original finish for a very reasonable price.
