A good solid example of a Model 1873 Winchester rifle in 44-40. 24" round barrel, full magazine, and crescent rifle buttplate.  Serial number is in the 427,000 range.  Made in 1892. This old Winchester has been in our collection for almost 10 years.  This is about as untouched as you will ever find an old Model 73. Its never been cleaned and its basically like it just came out of someone's attic, barn, or shed.  There are 116 years of uncleaned history...which was why I didn't clean it...I'm sure it would look a lot better if we did, but you'll never get back the history or that attic look once its been removed. It even has most of its original cleaning rod still in the stock.  Everything is 100% original down to the smallest screw.  Overall, NRA Antique Good+ condition with the metal turned to a dark brown patina with nice edges and markings...it just has a lot of dried/blackened grease, crud, and closet rust.  There is still some original blue in the protected areas.  Original sights include the original Winchester semi-buckhorn rear and standard front with German silver blade.  Screw heads look to be in good shape and are full of crud...this rifle hasn't had a screw turned probably since before WW1.  The wood is VG+ to Fine and has perfect wood to metal fit...lots of dirt and crud but most of the original varnish appears to be intact. The action is filthy but works like just like it should.  It would probably work better if cleaned but would have had to disturb the screws.  The bore is quite nice...I'd rate it as VG+ that should clean up to Fine...the rifling is very strong with very little signs of corrosion.  It would probably clean out to bright as you can see some sheen under the old grease.  No rings or bulges.  A nice example of an attic untouched Model 1873.
